At a recent meeting, the Town Council discussed the ban in John West Park, which was prompted by a letter from a mother concerned about the danger of secondhand smoke. If the town approved such a ban, it would follow Bethany Beach and Lewes as the third resort municipality to bar smoking in its public spaces. Dagsboro, Fenwick Island, Millsboro and Rehoboth Beach do not have any such ordinances and aren't considering the issue at this time, town officials said. http://www.delmarvanow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200909250432/NEWS01/909250311 25 Sep 2009 12:00 -0800 Delaware BETHANY BEACH -- A proposal to enforce the town's smoking ban year-round on the boardwalk and beach has garnered both positive and negative feedback. "From a health standpoint, I think the action we took (with the original ban) was the right action," Mayor Tony McClenny said. "But I agree that there are very few people on the beach between now and the spring." In April 2008, town officials banned smoking year-round at town parks, playgrounds and the bandstand area of the boardwalk. The Georgetown Town Council rejected a proposed smoking ban for the town's iconic circle and two parks at a June meeting.
